WHO LEADS THE CHURCH?

God!!   Though there are organizational dimensions to the life of a church, it is more accurately described as an organism. The Bible refers to the church as "the body of Christ," a living body in which Christ is "the head." The church originates from Christ and continues his ministry in the world today. The church is nothing less than the hands and feet of Jesus, under his guidance, touching people's lives today.

The ministers of the church are the members of the church. Anyone who has been baptized has been commissioned and empowered as a minister by virtue of their baptism. The church exists to call others home to God and take the ministry of Christ to the world. In the process, we care for one another, learn, grow, and support one another.

The Pastor.   The pastor of Church of the Word is the Reverand Robin T. Adams. Church of the Word now has full church status in the Anglican Disctrict of Virginia (ADV) and is a member parish in the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) and the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), and thus Robin is referred to as our "Rector."

The Church's Pastoral Ministry.   Home Groups have been the focal point of the congregation's pastoral ministry since our founding in 1986. Home Group leaders are trained and able to assist in a variety of ways, and can direct people to other existing support resources as needed.

The Vestry is the management team of a local congregation in the Anglican Church. Members are elected by the congregation to serve as a trustee body. They work in partnership with the rector to make sure that the best interests of the local church, fiscal and spiritual, are being managed on a regular basis.
