Verse of the Day
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” — Matthew 1:20-21 (NIV)

After 20 years of service to Church of the Word and the wider community, Pastor Robin and Donna have accepted a call to another parish. Sometime in the New Year they will move to Christ Church Brittany in France! This is an Anglican parish which serves English speaking people, living in a large geographical area, through 3 worship centers. Pastor Robin says that at 63 years old and after 38 years in the ordained ministry he has energy for at least one more adventure with the Lord. They have always enjoyed travel and working with internationals so the timing and opportunity seem to be right. Also their sons are strong and independent and keen to have a new place to visit!

Celebration. Please join the parish family and friends to celebrate 20 years of ministry to the community. It will be Sunday 17th @5pm. We will be entertained by the NiteHawks swing band

Our Bishop John Guernsey has been kept informed and has already met with our leadership to outline the practical steps the Vestry needs to take for an efficient search process. Now that we have come through the 5 years of disaffiliation we have the resources of ACNA to help in the transition and search. In lieu of the Adams’ departure, the Vestry will be assembling a Search Committee in earnest to begin the task of finding a new Rector to lead our parish.

We humbly ask the congregation to pray over this process and for anyone willing to participate to please come forward and speak to any member serving on the Vestry. We will be looking for faithful servants, who are willing to review resumes, research and respond to applicants while working alongside the Vestry with aid from the Diocese (DOMA). The Vestry feels confident that God will guide us to the right pastoral leadership to help us forward our mission to encounter and share Jesus. Please keep Pastor Robin and Donna in your prayers as they make numerous arrangements for their move. We have been truly blessed to have experienced the spirit through their example, teachings and friendship.

Prayers for Rector Search Prayers for our Church of the Word family, for the search committee, and for our new, as yet unknown, rector.

For Our Parish:
Almighty and ever living God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For The Search Committee and vestry:
Almighty and ever living God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel as members of CW/G search committee for the renewal and mission of your Church. Grant them the gift of discernment in all things. Guide them to clarity about our congregation’s mission into this community. Keep them in unity with both the courage to pursue your will and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Our New Rector:
O God, whose fatherly care reaches to the uttermost parts of the earth: we humbly beseech you to graciously behold and bless the person (and family) you have chosen as our new rector. Defend that individual from all dangers of soul and body; and grant that both that Pastor and parish, drawing nearer to you, may be bound together by your love and service. Prepare the new rector’s heart to respond to this call and discern your perfect will. Amen

Bible Scripture Prayers:
Here are a week’s worth of Scripture verses to use as the basis for new prayers for our parish, the search committee and our new rector. Look up the Scripture, read it and meditate on it. Use the prayer prompts as a place to start your prayers, then take your prayers where the Spirit leads!
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6
Prayer Prompts: Pray for the church to wholeheartedly trust the Lord while searching for a rector. Pray for the search committee and vestry to trust the Holy Spirit’s leadership.
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:1-6
Prayer Prompts: Pray for unity and peace in the church while searching for a rector. Pray for a strong sense of unity among the search committee as they carry out the search process.
Scripture Reading: John 15:1-8

Scripture Reading: John 15:9-15
Prayer Prompts: Pray for church members to abide in the love of Christ during the interim period. Pray for those in lay leadership and the discipleship of all members.
Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 29:11-13
