Visiting Church of the Word? Here’s what you need to know.

What to expect?

We know that visiting a new church for the first time can be intimidating. Hopefully we can set your mind at ease. The first thing you should know about us is that we believe that understanding the gospel is the foundational dynamic in personal, corporate, and societal redemption and renewal. Everything we do orients around this core belief. The second thing to know is we’re a liturgical church. That means we worship in a style that has it’s roots in the ancient practices of the Church. Everything is laid out for you so you won’t feel lost or confused. While our format may be ancient, our atmosphere is not – we’re a modern church. We celebrate Holy Communion each week and hear God’s word spoken. We also strongly believe in the power of God’s Spirit to bring about inner healing. We have prayer teams available during our services where you can join others in bringing your heart before God. The last thing to know about us before you come is that we want you to come as you are. There isn’t a dress code. There isn’t a particular set of beliefs you have to embrace before coming. Come with your doubts and questions – we all have them too. But together we’re learning that Jesus is the answer to all our deepest longings. When you arrive you’ll be warmly welcomed, and no one is going to call you out while you’re visiting. You’ll meet people from all walks of life and backgrounds. You’ll meet people who are new to following Jesus and those who have known him for a very long time. We’re all in the middle of our stories and we’d like you to be part of ours. So, come and see.

What about my children?

We love children at Church of the Word and we welcome them fully into our church. We do have children’s programs that meet during the sermon portion of the service (it can be hard for little ears to hear sermons after all), and you’ll be directed during the service when it’s time for children to join their program.

What about money?

Well, we believe that God wants your heart first and foremost. We take an offering during the service, but please feel free to let the plate pass without any guilt. Tithing, as it’s called, is a privilege of those who are members of Church of the Word. We believe giving God our financial resources is an act of worship and we don’t expect you to contribute.

Will I be called out?

Absolutely not! You’re our guest and that would be rude. Just come and enjoy the love and hear what God might be saying to you.
