Few Details on Special Executive Council Meeting

The special Executive Council meeting called for April 13 to determine whether the Episcopal Church will send official representatives to the June 21-29 meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council will probably be limited to voting members of council and support staff only and will not have a detailed agenda prior to the meeting, according to the Very Rev. George L. Werner, president of the House of Deputies.

Dean Werner said on April 1 that Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold had just left for a week-long retreat that he usually undertakes at this time of year and that he and Bishop Griswold had not discussed planning in detail for the meeting (which Dean Werner said would in all probability be closed to visitors and the press) prior to the Presiding Bishop’s departure for Nebraska.

When contacted by The Living Church on April 4, Dean Werner said Bishop Griswold would interrupt his retreat in order to conduct funeral services for the Rt. Rev. Steven Plummer, Bishop of Navajoland, who died of cancer on April 2, but that further details on the special Executive Council meeting would not be available even to members until after the conclusion of the retreat next week.
