Ad Hoc Bishops Group Focuses on Windsor Response

An ad hoc group of 15 bishops from across the theological spectrum continued discussion on a variety of issues that have caused pain and dissension in the Episcopal Church during a meeting Dec. 6-8.

The meeting in Chicago was a follow up to one held July 18-21 in Los Angeles, hosted by the Bishop of Los Angeles, the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno. One bishop who participated reported that during this second meeting the group discussed the development of a response to the Windsor Report.

In order to improve the likelihood of General Convention giving approval to their proposed response to the Windsor Report, the bishops would presumably first seek its approval with their colleagues. The March 17-22 meeting at the Kanuga Camp and Conference Center in Hendersonville, N.C., is the only time the House of Bishops is scheduled to meet before the June 13 start of the 75th General Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

The ad hoc group has scheduled at least one more meeting before the House of Bishops’ next meeting, according to a diocesan source who had been briefed about the Dec. 6-8 meeting.
