Pennsylvania: Presentment charges filed against Bishop Charles E. Bennison

Presentment charges were filed unanimously today against PA Bishop Charles E. Bennison by the Diocesan Standing Committee just one day after Katharine Jefferts-Schori was instituted as the Episcopal Church's 26th Presiding Bishop.

The Standing Committee recently hired Newark attorney Michael Rehill following repeated but failed efforts to get Bennison to either retire or resign for his financial mismanagement of the diocese.

Last night at St. George's Episcopal church, members of SNAP (Survivors' Network of those Abused by Priests) and family members of the Rev. John Bennison told their stories of John Bennison's sexual abuse and his brother's cover-up. At that time Glen Matis of the Standing Committee again called on Bennison to resign.

The charges now go before Schori and the national church's Title IV Review Committee for examination.
